Whitney: Still awake?

Me: Yeah.

Whitney: I know it’s super unfair of me to ask but…would you mind snuggling with me?

Snuggling?

I don’t know what she means exactly, but she obviously needs me, and I refuse to let her down. I promised her brother I would take care of her.

Me: You want me to come over there?

No sooner do I hit send then there’s a knock at my door.

In nothing but a pair of black boxer briefs, I climb out of bed and pad across the room to my door. Whitney stands on the other side of the door as I open it, a soft gasp when she sees me standing before her nearly naked. Her eyes go exactly where I expect them to go, straight to my dick, but then they slide up to meet my eyes. I reach up and wipe a few more tears from her soft cheeks.

Fuuuuck I want to kiss her.

“I... I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to catch you like—”

“You’ve seen me in far less, Whit, but if it’ll make you feel better, I’ll put more clothes on.”

“No. No. It’s fine,” she breathes, fiddling with the hem of the t-shirt she’s wearing. “I just…I don’t want to be alone. Can I sleep next to you?”

I notice she didn’t ask to sleep with me but next to me. Not that I would ever take advantage of her. Having her sleep next to me is certainly alright with me. I’ll sleep better knowing she’s safe with me anyway.

“Whatever you need, Beads. I’m here.”

I shut the door behind her and take her hand, leading her over to my bed. I walk around the left side as she climbs in on the right. Once I’m down, she wiggles over next to me, resting her head on my chest and entwining her legs with mine. I curl one arm around her body, holding her against me. No funny stuff. No flirting. No sex. I simply hold her in my arms, stroking her hair and whispering things like “You’re not alone” or “Everything is going to be okay” until she finally relaxes enough to fall asleep. I feel the moment she finally lets go, her warm body settling against mine as she slips into an even breathing pattern. Even then, I don’t let her go.

Instead, I spend the next thirty minutes chastising myself for forgetting to ask about her middle name.
